Tools for Being a Healing Presence

Overview
In Tools for Being a Healing Presence, we will discuss the characteristics of a “healing presence” including being present, accurate mirroring, and a non-judgmental stance. While interacting, participants will practice body and breath awareness as well as non-verbal mirroring skills. These skills enhance a helping professional’s ability to be a healing presence, keep clear boundaries, and listen without expectation.

Learning Objectives
  1. Participants will demonstrate breath and body awareness while listening to another person
  2. Participants will describe the role of mirroring in the
    healing relationship and identify three types of communication
  3. Participants will demonstrate verbal and nonverbal mirroring
  4. Participants will define three key elements of being a healing presence

After taking this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Use breath and body awareness to increase their presence with clients
  • Use mindful movement to increase their own body awareness
  • Use three types of non-verbal mirroring

Who can benefit from this workshop
This workshop is for social workers, counselors, acupuncturists, creative arts therapists, and other helping professionals.

Continuing Education

    Counselors – 6 clock hours
    The American Dance Therapy Association (ADTA) is an NBCC-Approved Continuing Education Provider (ACEPTM) and a co-sponsor of this event/program. ADTA may award NBCC-approved clock hours for events or programs that meet NBCC requirements. The ACEP maintains responsibility for the content of this event. Counselors are awarded 6 clock hours.

    Social Workers – 6 CEUS
    The American Dance Therapy Association (ADTA) is a Maryland Board of Social Workers Examiners approved sponsor of continuing education. The ADTA is a co-sponsor of this event. Social workers receive 6 category I ceus.

    Dance/Movement Therapists – 6 Continuing Education clock hours
    The American Dance Therapy Association approves this event for 6 Continuing Education clock hours.

    Acupuncturists and Asian bodyworkers – 5.5 PDA points
    The Center for Embodied Consciousness is an NCCAOM approved provider for this program. NCCAOM Provider # ACHB 878-002. Acupuncturists and Asian Bodyworkers receive 5.5 PDA points for this workshop.

    Should you desire to submit this workshop for CEUs, Contact Hours, or Professional Development Activity points to your continuing education approval agency, a certificate of attendance and learning objectives will be provided upon completion of this workshop and its evaluation.

Cancellation/Refund Policy
A full refund is available for cancellations 7 days or more in advance minus a $25 processing fee. No refunds will be granted after that date.

Facilitator
Kathryn Yarborough, MFA, BC-DTR is a board certified dance/movement therapist, the creator of embodied manifestation coaching, and the founder and director of the Center for Embodied Consciousness in Columbia, Maryland. In her private practice, she has helped clients seeking healing or relief from depression, anxiety, body dissatisfaction, and unresolved trauma. She has provided individual coaching and group training on the use of mindfulness, manifestation, stress reduction, and wellness based skills.
