Spiritual Enlightenment
The Path of Awakening
Many people choose the path of awakening out of a desire for spiritual enlightenment. Awakening is a process of shedding unconscious layers of separation from the Divine. When all the layers are shed, and we stand in our nakedness at one with All that is, no longer with a separate sense of self... We know that we are That. As we go through the process of awakening, the Divine invites and challenges us to let go of control, remember our Divine Nature, practice willingness, open to love, and surrender to the One that we all are... If we use spiritual practices like meditation, breathwork, chanting, prayer, or service work, we can open up to energies that shake the fabric of our being. These shake ups can lead to a dark night of the soul, when we feel like we're breaking in two, about to die, as if we have nothing to hang on to - that nothing makes sense any more. When we forget the path or choose to ignore it, the Divine will help by giving us little - or big - nudges or reminders about why we're really here. Like... - A client doesn't show up on time for her appointment and we feel upset about it.
- We're having a problem with a co-worker or even worse are fired from a job.
- We get sick... or even experience a life-altering illness like MS or cancer.
If we fight these opportunities to evolve, usually we get more "kicks in the butt." If we don't, we can have moments of experiencing Essence or even days of non-ordinary states of consciousness. These moments or days are not spiritual enlightenment... they are part of the journey of awakening. When we have fully shed our sense of separation and maintain a vibration aligned with Essence, spiritual enlightenment has manifested. A quote from Confucius helps me remember perseverance and patience on this journey... | At 15, I set my heart upon learning. At thirty, I had planted my feet firmly on the ground. At forty, I no longer suffered from perplexities. At fifty, I knew what were the biddings of heaven. At sixty, I heard them with a docile ear. At seventy, I could follow the dictates of my own heart: for what I desired no longer overstepped the boundaries of right. Confucius Analects Bood 2#4 |
