Professional Development for Helping Professionals
An Embodied Consciousness Approach
An embodied consciousness approach to professional development is based on an assumption that each person has a unique personal essence that wants to be expressed - ideally - through the work he or she does. This assumption influences the continuing education workshops I offer. It is my belief that when we fully express our personal essence, we experience a sense of rightness within our self and are able to provide a service that truly benefits others... and when we don't express it, we experience dissatisfaction or even worse. Personal essence uses intuition to guide or direct us to fully express it. For example, you might have felt "called" to the work you do. This seems particularly true for healing arts practitioners and other helping professionals. Understanding and trusting the experience of feeling called and our desire to fully express our personal essence can truly make this path and our professional development a lot smoother. From a psychospiritual and a practical perspective, each stage in our professional development has its own goals and challenges. For example, it seems that those practitioners who work in institutions can struggle to fully express themselves because of the limiting beliefs and culture of the organization they work in. Whereas, many folks who have private practices face the challenge of attracting enough clients with whom to fully share their gifts. The following links go to pages on this website that are meant to be resources for helping professionals who would like support along the journey. I realize that depending on you and your particular career you may only work in an organizational setting... or you may only have a private practice. So... not all of these stages will fit your career path. Use what's helpful and disregard the rest! | Professional Development Resources |
