Kathryn Yarborough, MFA, BC-DMT
Hi! I'm Kathryn Yarborough and the founder and Director of the Center for Embodied Consciousness. I created this website for two reasons...
Through this website, it's my intention to connect with people around the globe who are on a conscious journey of healing, awakening, and co-creation. And for those of you who are interested... to share what I know about using movement, breath, and other creative tools on this journey... And I, Kathryn Yarborough, want to let people in Maryland, DC, and Northern Virginia (U.S.A.) know about all the awesome practitioners in the area, their healing services, and the great workshops offered that support healing, wellness, and transformation. My healing and transformational journey began over 25 years ago - when I was in my early twenties. I had moved "up north" to go to Smith College in Massachusetts for a Masters degree in dance when my world turned upside down. At Smith College, I had movement experiences that awakened my chakras, expanded my mind, and basically completely shifted my perspective. I don't think my teachers at the time realized the impact the work had on me - I certainly didn't understand it then. I had an experience during which I "knew" that we are One... and during another experience I "knew" that at the point where matter and energy meet, they are interchangeable... These awakenings began my spiritual journey. I understand now that my chakras opened because of the expanded movements and embodied experiences my classes at Smith College invoked. However, as wonderful as all this was, because of my personality structure and life experiences, I was still dealing with a lot of issues. I lacked confidence to know what to do with the wisdom my experiences gave me. So for the next several years, I read self-help books, explored healing modalities, and took transformational workshops whenever I could. I struggled, learned, healed, and grew. And, throughout all this time, I, Kathryn Yarborough, knew that integrating embodied experiences - movement, posture, and sensations - with our thoughts, feelings, and actions and increasing the variety of movements we use could lead us to health and wholeness. Since that time I went back to school and then - I became a board certified dance/movement therapist
- I worked in a hospital as a dance/movement therapist with people who had eating disorders and other psychiatric illnesses...
- I started my own private practice as a dance/movement therapist and then added manifestation coaching...
- I began studying with a spiritual teacher...
- I bought a healing arts center...
- I became trained as an integrative breathworker...
- I founded the Center for Embodied Consciousness...
Then I created my first website - www.Relaxed-and-At-Ease.com and began creating and selling products that support conscious healing, awakening, and co-creation. Needless to say, throughout the past twenty-five years I've learned a lot, cried a lot, healed a lot, and helped others on their own journey as much as I could. And now the work I do is deeply integrated with spirituality. I believe that true and full healing is only possible when we know and fully realize in every moment of our lives that we are Essence in physical form. Hence, I, Kathryn Yarborough have founded the Center for Embodied Consciousness. My hope is that through this center, the information on this website, my classes and workshops... and all the other wonderful work the many gifted, talented and wise people are doing around the globe... that we will - together - choose to wake up in every cell and walk in alignment with the Divine. I currently teach Embodied Consciousness training and continuing education workshops for helping professionals who want to use embodied practices, manifestation skills, undefended relating, and spirituality on their own healing and awakening journey and, as appropriate, with their clients. And I see private clients for psychospiritual healing and transformational sessions that integrate dance/movement therapy, manifestation coaching, and integrative breathwork. In these sessions, we use movement, breath, other creative tools, and often manifestation skills. I also work with small business owners who want to clear blocks to attracting clients or who need other support to identify and implement a relationship focused marketing plan that works for them.
