Embodied Stress Reduction Techniques: How to Help Clients Relax
Kathryn Yarborough, MFA, BC-DTR Overview In Embodied Stress Reduction Techniques, participants will learn how to teach clients specific stress reduction techniques including diaphragmatic breathing, mindfulness, and gentle movement for relaxation. We will discuss the affects of stress, the importance of stress reduction, and twenty different stress reduction approaches. Learning Objectives
- Participants will define stress including five physiological changes that occur during the stress response and the impact of long-term stress on the body and mind.
- Participants will demonstrate and describe how to properly use diaphragmatic breathing, mindfulness, and gentle movement to relax.
- Participants will compare and contrast twenty different stress reduction approaches.
After taking this workshop, participants will be able to: - Teach their clients how to properly use diaphragmatic breathing to relax
- Discuss stress and its affects with their clients
- Assist their clients in creating and implementing an effective stress reduction plan
Who can benefit from this workshop This workshop is for social workers, counselors, acupuncturists, creative arts therapists, massage therapists, coaches, ministers and other helping professionals. Continuing Education Counselors – 6 clock hours The American Dance Therapy Association (ADTA) is an NBCC-Approved Continuing Education Provider (ACEPTM) and a co-sponsor of this event/program. Facilitator Kathryn Yarborough, MFA, BC-DTR is a board certified dance/movement therapist, the creator of embodied manifestation coaching, and the founder and director of the Center for Embodied Consciousness in Columbia, Maryland. In her private practice, she has helped clients seeking healing or relief from depression, anxiety, body dissatisfaction, and unresolved trauma. She has provided individual coaching and group training on the use of mindfulness, manifestation, stress reduction, and wellness based skills.
