Breath of Life Coaching is NOT yoga, chi kung, psychotherapy, reiki, dance/movement therapy, life coaching... ...but it has a lot in common with all of these modalities. What you can expect... You can expect to feel more relaxed, centered, and abundant when you regularly use the breath of life practices. Probably your health will improve and your stress levels will decrease. You will probably be better able to respond to the changes and challenges life brings. However, along the way... Since how we breath is so closely associated with how we live, when we begin to change our breath patterns it can bring up feelings we didn't realize we had; questions about our lifestyle choices; and expanded ways of thinking. As a board certified dance/movement therapist - which is the psychotherapeutic use of movement and words for healing and integration - and an integrative breathworker, I feel quite confident in supporting all of my clients work through anything that arises. In a session... Every client is unique and, therefore, every session is different. However, in general, sessions are an hour and the first three sessions look like this... In your first session we'll talk about your lifestyle, goals, issues, and why you want to learn how to breathe more fully and deeply. I'll guide you through a breathing meditation giving you an opportunity to relax and me a chance to see how you're currently breathing and assess what might be useful to work on. In your second session, we'll probably go over diaphragmatic breathing and possibly mindful movement. I will probably suggest that you practice conscious, deep breathing in between sessions. In your third session, you'll do a breathing practice and we'll probably discuss your breath and lifestyle choices. We'll discuss what you can do on your own to continue with the changes you've already made and what might happen if we continued to work together. If you're interested in health and wellness... Full bodied, deep breaths relax your body, oxygenate your cells, and increases the flow of lifeforce (chi/prana) in your body. - A relaxed person is more likely to stay healthy and not be affected by stress related illnesses such as cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, and adult onset diabetes.
- Studies have shown that people with a greater lung capacity and therefore increased oxygen actually live longer.
- Lifeforce (chi/prana) has been defined as the basic building block of the Universe. Science may be linking bio-electricity or the way be transmit messages in the body to chi. There is much still to learn about this.
However, what seems true is that increased lifeforce has been associated with improved health, stopping the aging process, and in some cases youthing.
Some people use breath for transformation and spiritual awakening.If you are on a conscious journey of healing, transformation, and awakening, using these breath and movement practices can enhance your capacity for greater self awareness. In these sessions, you'll learn all you need to know to practice full bodied, conscious, continuous breathing - or be well on your way to do so.
